Spring Skating Programs

Our Figure Skating Program is under the guidance of our own Karen Magnussen.

In 1972, Karen was the focal point in a new era of Figure Skating, one that emphasized free skating ability over compulsory figures. The change came in 1973 and with this change Karen became Champion of the World. The young lady from North Vancouver won the World Cmpionship in Bratislava Czechoslovakia. The year before Karen won the Olympic Silver Medal in Sapporo Japan and a Silver medal at the 72 World Championships in Lyon France. The Six times Canadian National Champion and North American Champion who became Canada’s media darling got her start right here at the North Shore Winter Club.

Karen has a passion to teach at all levels of skating from beginners to experienced pros, from child to champion.

With FUNdamentals Coodinator Lena Sosnowsky the NSWC Figure Skating Program offers Olympic caliber coaching for all levels of skating complete with on and off ice group enrichment training. Once in our Figure Skating program, skaters participate in group enrichment sessions at least four times a week. Add a jump harness, slow motion video playback and year round ice time in a family atmosphere and you have one of the premier clubs for competitive and recreational figure skating.
